Recording a first payment you were paid another way
The best way to get your first payment is through the payment link I set up with your Stripe account. Stripe records the payment for me, and I see it right away. This article is for the other case: a customer already paid you another way, such as a check or cash, and your roadmap still says you haven't earned your first dollar.
How to tell me
On your Dashboard, once your roadmap reaches Earn first dollar and it is the step I'm working on, that row shows a small link: Already got paid another way? Tell me. Select it, then choose Record it. If you change your mind, choose Not now and nothing is saved.
You won't see the link before that step, and I don't ask you about it.
What happens when you record it
- Your roadmap row shows it as done, with the line "First payment recorded (offline, by you)." It does not look like a Stripe payment, because it isn't one.
- I stop the weekly customer lists I was sending you to help find a first customer.
- I don't see the payment itself. I only record that you told me. I don't know the amount or who paid, so I don't celebrate it or add it to your Stripe reports.
Good to know
- You can't undo it. The record says what you told me. If you recorded it by mistake, contact a real person.
- If Stripe already shows a payment, there's nothing to record. I don't save anything, and your row shows done as soon as I next check.
- Payments through Stripe still work as before. Anything a customer pays through your payment link shows up in Stripe and in your reports.
