"My website looks down" — what to check
If your website seems to be down or not loading, start by asking me — "is my website live?" or "what's going on with my site?" — and I'll check its real, current status rather than you guessing from what your browser shows you.
The most common cause: not published yet
If your business is brand new, your site may simply not be live yet. I publish it automatically once the first build finishes and passes its checks — until then, there's no address to load. I'll always tell you plainly if your site isn't live rather than handing you a link that doesn't work. See "Finding your website's address".
A change is still going out
If you recently asked me to change your website, there's a short window between when I finish building it and when it's actually live — a publish takes a little time to go out. If you check right after asking for a change, ask me whether it's still publishing before assuming something's wrong.
I couldn't publish the change
Sometimes a website change fails a safety or size check before it goes live, and your site keeps showing whatever was published before. If that happens, I'll tell you what went wrong and what to do about it — you won't be left wondering why an update never showed up.
Your browser, not your site
Before assuming the worst, try loading your site in a private/incognito window or on your phone's data instead of Wi-Fi. Browsers cache pages aggressively, so a change that's genuinely live can still look stale on the device you're staring at.
If a recent change broke something
If your site was working and a recent change made it worse, you can put the previous version back immediately from Settings → Site — see "Rolling back a website change". That gets you back to a known-good state right away while we sort out the fix.
It might be deliberately offline
If you (or I, at your request) took your site offline on purpose, visitors see a neutral "not currently live" page instead of an error — see "Taking your website offline" for how to check and bring it back.
Still not resolved
If I've confirmed your site is live and none of the above explains what you're seeing, tell me exactly what you're experiencing — what page, what error, what device — and I'll dig into it. If it turns out to be something I can't fix directly, I'll get you to a real person. See "Talking to a real person".
