Managing your account

User Settings, in the account menu, is where your login, email, and password live. If you have more than one business, it is also where you choose which business opens first (see Switching between businesses).

Renaming your business

If your business's name changes, update it in Settings → Business Settings, or just tell your co-founder the new name in chat and it can make the change for you. Your co-founder always uses your current name once it's changed — you won't need to remind it.

Your business name sits at the top of your workspace, on the Apps button, and updates on its own within a few seconds — you don't need to reload. On a phone the top bar is narrower, so the name isn't shown there; you'll still see it in Settings → Business Settings.

If your website is already published, it's the one place the new name doesn't appear right away. Your site is built and published as its own thing, so it keeps showing the old name until it's rebuilt. In that case your co-founder offers to update your website with the new name — and that offer waits for you in chat and on your dashboard; just say yes (or approve it) and your co-founder rebuilds the site with the new name. Say no and nothing happens to your site.

If your website hasn't been built yet, there's nothing to update and you won't be asked about it — renaming early is completely fine. Your co-founder simply builds the site with your current name when the time comes, so the name you set now is the one your first site will carry.

Your web address and email after a rename

Renaming your business changes your name and, once you rebuild, the name shown on your website. It does not change your web address or your built-in email address. Both come with your business as a free, ready-to-use ZenBusiness address, and they stay the same no matter how often you rename — so any link you've shared and any way customers already reach you keeps working.

When you're ready to use a web address of your own instead of the free one, that's done by bringing your own domain — a natural next step once your business is more established.

Your free web address is a starting point

Your free ZenBusiness web address is a ready-to-use starter address, so you can put your site online right away without picking or paying for anything first. It often includes a short number (like yourbusiness-4821.zenbiz.com) — that's normal, and it keeps your address unique. Think of it as a temporary address you can use today, not something to fuss over: it works fully, it stays put, and any link you've already shared keeps working.

When you want a web address that's truly your own — one that matches your brand exactly, with no extra number — that's what connecting your own domain is for. You don't need to do anything now to keep using the free one. You'll also see this reminder in Settings → Site, right under your address, so you always know where the free address ends and your own domain begins.

Confirming your email address

In User Settings your address shows as verified or unverified. If it's unverified, choose Send verification email and open the link I send — that confirms your address on the spot, and the badge flips to verified. If the page still shows the old state, choose I've verified — refresh.

You may never see unverified at all. If you joined by opening the Get Started link we emailed you, that already confirmed your address. Signing in with an emailed link, or resetting your password, does the same.

Changing which email address you use

Choose Change email, type the new address, and choose Send confirmation email. I send that email to the new address, not the old one, and nothing changes until you open the link inside it — until then you keep signing in with your current address.

That order is deliberate: a typo can't lock you out of your own account, because an address you can't reach is one you can't confirm. It also means nobody who borrows your screen for a minute can quietly move your account to their own inbox.

Every link I send opens on our own site, and each one works once. See "Signing in without a password, or resetting it".

Signing out

Sign out from User Settings in the account menu. Signing out ends your session on this device; your data and everything I've been working on are unaffected — they're waiting for you next time you sign back in.

Changing your password goes further: it ends your sessions on every other device, and leaves you signed in here.

If you want your account and data deleted rather than just signed out of, that's a different thing entirely — see "Closing your account and deleting your data".
