Removing an app, and bringing it back

If an app isn't earning its place any more, you can take it off your workspace. There are two ways to do it, and both do the same thing.

Two ways to remove one

Just ask. Say something like "remove the House Notes app" in chat — at any point in any conversation, whatever you were just talking about. Your co-founder lines the removal up right then and shows you an approval card, so nothing happens until you say yes. You won't be asked to come back and ask again later, and you won't be told it's lined up unless the card is there.

Or do it in Settings. Open Settings → App settings for a list of everything you currently have, with a Remove button next to each one. You'll get a confirmation step before it goes.

What removing an app does

The app disappears from your workspace: its tab goes away and your co-founder stops being able to use it.

What it does not do is throw away what you put in. The information you saved in the app stays where it is, and so does the record of it being built. Nothing about your website, your payments, or your email changes.

Changed your mind? Bring it back

Removing an app isn't permanent. Under your live apps in Settings → App settings there's a Removed section listing everything you've taken off, each with a Bring it back button. One click and the app returns exactly as it was — same tab, same information, same version.

You can ask in chat instead: "bring back the House Notes app". Your co-founder will confirm which one you mean.

If you're replying to one of your co-founder's emails, ask in your portal chat instead — removing or restoring an app happens there.

Bringing an app back doesn't need a confirmation step the way removing it does, because nothing is lost either way — if you change your mind again, Remove is right there.

If you'd rather start fresh than bring the old one back, say so and your co-founder can build you a new one.

If a build is still running

An app that's still being built can't be removed mid-build. Your co-founder will tell you it's still working on that one, and you can remove it once the build has finished.

What you'll see afterwards

The app moves from your live list into the Removed section, and its tab disappears from the top of the page straight away. If you ask your co-founder to do something the removed app used to handle, it'll tell you plainly that it can't — and if you later ask for that kind of app again, it'll point out you already built one and offer to bring it back rather than quietly building you a second copy.
