Adding an image to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn posts
When you ask me to draft posts for Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, I ask about the image once: after you approve the message, and before I write the posts. Instagram posts need an image. For Facebook and LinkedIn it's up to you.
Social posting is turned on one business at a time. If you don't see Social in the menu, it isn't switched on for your business yet, and I'll let you know when it is.
Choosing the image
The card suggests an image you already have, usually your logo. You can:
- Use this image to go with what's shown.
- Change to pick a different image you've saved, or add a new one from your computer or phone.
- Make one for me if you don't have a photo. I only make an image when you tap this, and once you have one, Make a different one replaces it with a new one. If you described the image when you asked for the posts, this button reads Make the image you described the first time. Every image I make is saved with your other images.
- Skip the image, as long as Instagram isn't one of the channels you picked.
Adding it when you post
When you post a draft yourself, you add the image to it. The card for that channel walks you through it in numbered steps, and saving the image is step 1:
- Save image opens the image in a new tab. On a phone, press and hold the image and tap Save. On a computer, right-click it and choose Save image.
- Copy caption and open Facebook (or Instagram, or LinkedIn) copies the post's text and opens the site. Paste the text in and add the image you saved.
- Mark as posted once it's live. I'll ask you to confirm first, because I can't undo it once it's marked.
When I post to LinkedIn for you
If your LinkedIn profile is connected, the LinkedIn card also offers Post. Before anything goes out, I show you the post one more time with the image that goes with it, and once you approve, I publish both to your profile together. I'll post it myself is still there if you'd rather do it by hand, and so is Save image.
LinkedIn only takes JPG, PNG and GIF images. If the image you picked is in another format, Post is switched off on that card and the card says why. Use I'll post it myself and add the image as you post. If the image has been deleted from your saved images by the time you approve, nothing goes out: I won't post it without the image. Ask me to draft the post again and pick another image.
